Frequently asked questions.

Everything parents want to know about how Skolvio teaches, keeps kids safe, and fits into your week.

Getting Started

How does the free trial work?

You get full access to every feature for 14 days at no cost. A credit card is required at signup, but you won't be charged until the trial ends. Cancel anytime during the trial and pay nothing.

How do I set up my child's account?

After signing up, go to your parent dashboard and click "Add Child." You'll enter your child's name, grade, curriculum, and create a 6-digit PIN they'll use to log in. It takes about 2 minutes.

How long does a typical lesson take?

Most lessons take about 20–30 minutes. Your child works through an interactive lesson — explanations, worked examples, and visuals they move through at their own pace — then answers a short 10-question quiz at the end. They can pause and resume at any point; progress is saved automatically.

Does my child need any special equipment?

Just a computer, tablet, or phone with a web browser. Voice input works in all modern browsers. The drawing canvas works on any device with a touchscreen or mouse.

What curricula are supported?

Skolvio is built on the Ontario (Canada) curriculum, with Math, Science, and English fully loaded for Grades 4–8.

Learning & Content

What grades and subjects does Skolvio cover?

We currently cover Grades 4–8 in Math, Science, and English, fully aligned to the Ontario curriculum. More grades and subjects are being added regularly.

How is this different from Khan Academy or YouTube?

Khan Academy and YouTube hand your child videos to watch — Skolvio doesn't use videos at all. It teaches one-on-one: it explains each concept, asks questions to check your child actually understood, gives step-by-step feedback on every answer, and re-explains a different way when they're stuck. It's mapped to the exact Ontario curriculum (not a generic one), adapts to your child's grade level, and shows you their progress — none of which a video library does.

What if my child gets stuck?

Unlike a human tutor, the AI never gets tired, frustrated, or impatient. Every wrong answer comes with step-by-step working, an "Explain this differently" button re-teaches the idea a whole new way, and a "Still confused? Ask your tutor" option lets your child ask follow-up questions until it clicks. They can also do unlimited extra practice to lock it in.

Can I see what my child is learning?

Absolutely. Your parent dashboard shows every lesson completed, every exam taken, stars earned, and practice session results — including which units your child is strongest and weakest in. You also get a weekly AI-generated progress report by email.

Is there extra practice beyond the lessons?

Yes — plenty. Your child can do unlimited practice on any unit or the full course, and you can print unlimited offline worksheets for any lesson or unit, so they can practice on paper away from the screen. Practice never affects their lesson progress; it's purely for extra reinforcement.

Does my child actually practice writing and reading — not just multiple choice?

Yes — and that's a real difference. In the Writing Studio, your child writes a genuine piece (a story, an opinion, an explanation) and gets specific, encouraging feedback on their ideas, organization, word choice, and conventions, scored to the Ontario grade-level standard. In the Reading Studio, they read a fresh passage each time and answer comprehension and open-response questions. Both coach real skills — not just fill-in-the-blank.

How do unit exams work?

After completing all lessons in a unit, your child can take a 20-question unit exam. They need 14/20 (70%) to pass and unlock the next unit. Stars are awarded based on score: 1 star for 14–15/20, 2 stars for 16–18/20, 3 stars for 19–20/20. Once every unit exam in a course is passed, your child can take a 40-question final course exam covering the whole course.

Account & Children

Can I have multiple children on one account?

Yes. Each additional child is $15/month. Each child gets their own login, their own AI tutor (they even name it!), and their own progress tracking. You see all children from one parent dashboard.

How do I add another child?

Go to your parent dashboard and click "Add Child." Each additional child is billed at $15/month, added to your existing subscription automatically.

My child forgot their PIN — how do I reset it?

Go to your parent dashboard, click on your child's name, then "Edit Profile." You'll see a Reset PIN section where you can set a new 6-digit PIN directly. Your child can then log in with the new PIN right away.

Why can't my child log in?

Check that the username is spelled correctly (usernames are lowercase). Make sure the PIN is correct — use "Forgot PIN" on the child login page if needed. If your subscription has lapsed or is past due, your child's access will be paused until billing is resolved.

Can I pause my child's account instead of cancelling?

Yes. Go to your parent dashboard, click on your child's name, then "Edit Profile," and use the Pause Account option. Your child keeps access until the end of your current billing period. All progress is saved, and you can reactivate anytime from the Inactive Profiles section on your dashboard.

What happens to my child's progress if I cancel?

All progress is saved. If you cancel without deleting your account, your data is retained for 12 months so you can resubscribe and pick up right where you left off.

Can I change my child's grade level?

Yes. Go to your parent dashboard, click on your child's name, then "Edit Profile." You can change their grade and the available subjects will update automatically to match the new grade.

Can I delete a child's account?

Yes. Go to your parent dashboard, click on your child's name, then "Edit Profile," and scroll to the Danger Zone section to remove the child. This permanently deletes all their progress data and removes the seat from your subscription.

Billing & Subscription

How much does Skolvio cost?

The first child is $20/month. Each additional child is $15/month, in Canadian dollars. A 14-day free trial is included — no charge until the trial ends.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes, no questions asked. Go to your dashboard and click "Manage Billing" to open the billing portal where you can cancel. You keep access until the end of your current billing period. No cancellation fees or long-term contracts.

How do I update my payment method?

Go to your parent dashboard and click "Manage Billing." This opens the Stripe billing portal where you can update your card, view invoices, and manage your subscription.

What happens if my payment fails?

We'll email you immediately and retry the charge. If payment continues to fail, your children's access will be paused. All progress is saved — reactivating your subscription restores full access right where they left off.

Privacy & Safety

Can my child talk to the AI about anything?

No. Skolvio is strictly limited to lesson content. It will not engage with off-topic requests, personal conversations, or anything outside the curriculum. All interactions are age-appropriate and designed to be safe for children.

Who can see my child's progress?

Only you, the parent. Your child can see their own lessons and stars. No one else has access to your family's data.

Is my child's data sold or used to train AI?

Never. Skolvio is ad-free and subscription-only. Your child's data is never sold or used to train AI models. We are COPPA and PIPEDA compliant — parental consent is verified at signup via Stripe.
