The Night the Power Went Out

When the storm knocked out the power, Maya groaned — no TV, no tablet, nothing to do. Then her dad lit three fat candles and set them in the middle of the kitchen table. “Looks like an adventure,” he said, grinning. They played cards by candlelight, told ghost stories, and listened to the rain drum on the roof. Maya laughed so hard her sides hurt. When the lights flickered back on two hours later, she was almost disappointed. “Can we turn them off again?” she asked. Her dad just winked.
